Help get the Secondlife viewer into Debian
Help is aways wanted and there are a number of things you can do
- Test the Debian Viewer see if it works, see if its better or worse than the official client
- Test the build system, check out the latest .dsc files or build from the svn repository
- Contribute more patches or convert more patches from JIRA to dpatch (note at this point i don't want to make ANY feature changes w.r.t the Linden version only bug fixes please).
- Package the viewer for other platforms, any PPC builders out there or any other systems it works on? we can distribute through the apt repro too!
- If you are a DD and want to join the team you can help us polish the packages and upload them to Debian (or at least the libraries untill as the viewer still has the licence issue)
Things to do to get the viewer into Debian
- Resolve CC-BY-SA v2.5 -> CC-By-SA v3.0 issue (in progress)
- Resolve Copyright/Licence status of Trademark logos (in progress)
- Get openjpeg in to Debian (in progress)
- Get xmlrpc-epi in to Debian
- Get llmozlib into Debian
Things to do to get OpenJPEG into Debian
Wait for next major release after 1.2. 1.2 has nastly bugs and is very slow compared to latest SVN. SVN of OpenJPEG is running *very* well now, as soon as there is a release we should push for inclusion again.
Revise debian/copyright file a bit more
Make a push for a RFS on mentors
Openjpeg version control is now at :-
Almost done!, we are in the final stages of tidying and hopefully very soon it will be uplaoded in to Debian.
Things to do to get xmlrpc-epi into Debian
Investigate version inside php5, check we are upto date.
Work is in progress here, thanks Paul !, we are considering a fork of the old xmlrpc-epi project as its dead on sourceforge and really needs updating. Currently looking at options and what other distros are doing.
Things to do to get llMozlib into Debian
Get a structured release version system.
Considering a fork for a clean, sane linux build against system xulrunner.
Ubuntu?
Not sure of the state of secondlife and ubuntu, i know many people use my debs on ubuntu too and I have spotted a Ubuntu test repository at http://ubuntu.cafuego.net/dists/ but i don't know much about this yet. If possible it would be nice to work together with any Ubuntu effort so we can both benifit from each others work.
Update, cafuego has links pointing here so i am none the wiser. I know some versions of ubuntu try to self distruct when you install libllmozlib, but others are ok due to a packing issue with mozilla and xulrunner.I think only Stable is an issue and thats fairly old now so testing or unstable should be fine.
