I wanted to get the Second Life(tm) client running on my AMD64 debian testing/unstable setup in 64bit mode. I am now working on an effort to get the viewer into the Debian linux distribution. An experimental apt repository is also running where you get the viewer and other non debian packaged libs for AMD64 and i386 based systems.
Due to trademark policy of Linden Labs, the viewer is now known as "Open Metaverse Viewer" and is described as "a client for connecting to virtual worlds such as Second Life (tm) and other virtual world grids".
